Warren McCulloch

An American neurophysiologist who, with logician Walter Pitts, published a 1943 paper proposing a simplified mathematical model of a biological neuron, showing how networks of such units could compute logical functions. The McCulloch-Pitts neuron is widely considered the starting point of connectionist AI and the ancestor of the modern Neural network. (See also: Walter Pitts, Connectionism)
