Joy Buolamwini
A Ghanaian-American computer scientist whose 2018 "Gender Shades" study, co-authored with Timnit Gebru, found that commercial facial recognition systems were significantly less accurate on darker-skinned and female faces than on lighter-skinned male faces. She founded the Algorithmic Justice League to campaign against harmful uses of facial recognition and other biased AI systems, and was the subject of the 2020 documentary "Coded Bias".
