Foundation model

A large AI model trained on broad, general-purpose data that can be adapted, through fine-tuning or prompting, to a wide range of downstream tasks. Large language models are the most prominent example, but foundation models also exist for images, audio, and other data types. (See also: Fine-tuning, Large language model)
