Ilya Sutskever

A computer scientist who studied under Geoffrey Hinton and co-authored AlexNet (2012), the deep learning image recognition system that helped trigger the current wave of AI investment, before co-founding OpenAI and serving as its chief scientist. In 2024 he left to found Safe Superintelligence Inc., a lab focused specifically on AI safety research. (See also: Geoffrey Hinton, AI alignment)
