EU AI Act
The European Union's regulation governing the development and use of AI systems, adopted in 2024, which classifies AI applications by risk level, from "unacceptable risk" (banned outright, such as social scoring) through "high-risk" to "minimal risk", and sets corresponding obligations for providers and users. As the first comprehensive AI law of its kind, it is a key reference point for AI governance in the EU and, through the "Brussels effect", beyond it.
