Cynthia Rudin

An American computer scientist at Duke University and a leading advocate for interpretable machine learning: models whose reasoning can be directly inspected, rather than opaque "black box" models paired with after-the-fact explanations. She argues that for high-stakes decisions, such as parole or lending, interpretable models should be used from the outset rather than relying on explainable AI techniques to justify an opaque model after the fact.
