Cynthia Dwork

An American computer scientist who pioneered differential privacy, a mathematical framework for analysing data about a population while provably protecting the privacy of any individual within it, now a standard tool for privacy-preserving data collection and analysis. She has also contributed foundational theoretical work on how to define and measure fairness in algorithmic decision-making. (See also: Algorithmic bias, Data ingestion)
