Claude Shannon

An American mathematician and engineer known as the father of information theory, whose 1948 paper "A Mathematical Theory of Communication" provided the mathematical foundation for digital computing and data transmission. Shannon also built early game-playing and maze-solving machines and helped organise the influential 1956 Dartmouth workshop alongside John McCarthy that gave the field of AI its name.
