Digital sovereignty
Digital sovereignty
The principle that individuals, organisations, and states should retain meaningful control over their own data, digital infrastructure, and the technology they depend on, rather than being structurally dependent on a small number of dominant, often non-European, technology companies. In the context of AI, digital sovereignty concerns include reliance on foreign-hosted models and compute, and it is a central motivation behind the preference for open-source and self-hosted alternatives.
