Regina Barzilay

An American computer scientist at MIT working on natural language processing, who redirected much of her research towards applying AI to early cancer detection and drug discovery after her own breast cancer diagnosis. A MacArthur Fellow, she is known both for foundational NLP research and for demonstrating how deep learning can be applied directly to high-stakes medical problems. (See also: Deep learning)
