A Swedish-American physicist at MIT, known for work in cosmology, who co-founded the Future of Life Institute in 2014 to focus attention on risks from powerful technologies. His 2017 book &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Life 3.0&amp;#039;&amp;#039; set out scenarios for a world with advanced AI, and in March 2023 the institute published the open letter calling for a six-month pause on training systems more powerful than GPT-4, signed by tens of thousands of people and widely credited with pushing AI risk onto the political agenda.
