An American economist, political scientist, and cognitive psychologist who, with [[Allen Newell]], built the Logic Theorist (1956) and the General Problem Solver (1957), among the first programs designed to mimic human problem-solving. Simon won the 1978 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his work on bounded rationality, and his collaboration with Newell helped establish [[Symbolic AI|symbolic AI]] as a research programme.
